What's new at Deb Curtis Photography

I can’t believe the year is almost over and Christmas is almost upon us. Since my last blog which was mid football season, I have been busy with sporting commitments, mainly with the SANFL, and enjoyed photographing the Magarey Medal, The Hall of Fame, and the finals series at the beautiful Adelaide Oval. I was very proud to win the 2014 Media Award for the Best Photographic coverage for the second year running,  makes my job all that much more rewarding.

With my husband I went on a cruise straight after footy season. We went on the Voyager of the Seas, a very large Royal Caribbean ship, we left Hong Kong, and sailed to Taiwan, which I loved, Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) – which was interesting to see, and then onto Bangkok for 2 days, visiting temples, 100 year old markets and Pattaya resort. We finished our holiday with 4 days relaxing in Singapore – with such high humidity it’s impossible to rush around too much during the day, and thankfully we had a wonderful swimming pool at our Hotel. The Bay of Gardens is certainly worth visiting and the night light show is spectacular.

I’ve added a few photos from football, my holiday, and my award. To all my clients thanks for your loyalty, hope you all enjoy the festive season, get to have a break with family and friends, and best wishes for 2015 – which personally I can’t wait for, my first precious grandchild is due to arrive in March.

Winter is here – although it still feels like Autumn, loving the sunny days we are still having. Since my last blog I have been very busy with mainly football photography, and being the SANFL photographer there is always something happening. My season starts with travelling from one end of the city to the other to get each team’s photo for the team poster that is handed out at each club.  Last week it was the State team photo and individual player profile pics. – I thought we had picked a good team, and it proved I was correct, with SA beating the Vics by 22 points in Victoria. Early in May the Crows State league team played the Port Power Reserves team in Clare, which was a wonderful day trip with perfect weather. Besides football I have taken family photos, school formal photos, and for a bit of fun for myself I’ve been practising doing HDR photos (high dynamic range) – which I love. I am also the photographer for Western Jets and have included a couple of pics from their Sponsor’s BBQ held just recently and some Women’s football which was a curtain raiser to an SANFL game.

I have just bought myself a new Canon 1Dx camera – which is the best camera I have ever owned, and is amazingly fast and sharp, but being left-handed, and after several games of football last weekend I had a very sore right thumb and hand due to the weight of the camera, so thumb and hand exercises are needed :-)   I’ve included a bit of everything that I’ve been doing in this blog – if you wish to see more SANFL pics they are all on this site https://www.flickr.com/photos/39260735@N03/  ….

Welcome to 2014 – and Happy New Year to you all. I have had a reasonably busy , but very enjoyable Christmas and New Year. I have had several weddings to photograph, as well as taking photos for Adelaide United Football Club, which is always exciting.

Back in November my youngest daughter, Megan, married Joshua Scott,  it was a beautiful wedding held in Cabra Chapel, and the reception was a great celebration held at The Lane Vineyard, everyone danced and we all had so much fun. Megan wore a beautiful very soft tulle dress in ivory with rhinstones around the waist, the bridemaids looked gorgeous in soft musky pink knee length dress also with rhinstones.  Megan’s and the bridesmaid’s flowers were absolutely stunning, and the flowers on the tables were amazing, thanks to Sam from Fabulous Functions. Being the mother of the bride, I couldn’t also be the photographer, so just had to settle with taking a few snaps at home – so I’m looking forward to seeing her pics from her photographer Daniel Kalisz.

The first wedding in December I photographed was at Howard Vineyard at Nairne, between Helen and Troy, and although the bride was running “slightly” late, the day was perfect, the weather was wonderful, and everyone appeared to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. Being a tall bride Helen’s dress suited her to a tee, and her bridemaid’s looked so stunning in summery yellow gowns.

The second wedding for December was straight after Christmas, between a beautiful couple Adam and Jen, who have been together for 12 years, and have 2 lovely daughters, who were also part of the wedding party.  Jen looked amazing in a Maggie Sottero dress with equally stunning Jimmy Choo shoes. Jen’s 3 bridesmaids wore fabulous black cocktail dresses. We visited several locations for photos which included Adelaide Uni cloisters where they met, The Adelaide Botanic Gardens, always a great spot for photos and then outside and inside the National Wine Centre where their wedding was held.

Last week I was honoured to be awarded with the 2013 SANFL Best Photographic Coverage at the Media Awards. It certainly made the long, cold winter worthwhile.  I think this photo of Ben Kane taking a hanger over Max Thring is what got me over the line.

It has been a very busy winter season this year. I started out taking all SANFL  teams  and finished with the Grand Final a few weeks ago. In between, I covered every round, and all the finals. I was a sponsor at Western Jets Netball club and photographed their 32 winter teams. I also covered the individual and teams photos for North Adelaide footy club and West Adelaide footy club.  Had a few family photoshoots and one wedding also in the mix.

Here’s a few footy pics to start off with.

Last Friday night I had the privilege to photograph Andrew & Anna’s wedding which was held at Mt Lofty House, a stunning location for a fabulous wedding.  Anna looked breathtaking in a fabulous oyster coloured beaded wedding dress with a stunning circular lace train. The pale lilac bridemaids dresses looked stunning on each of the girls tastefully finished off with gypsophlia flowers.  Two little nieces looked gorgeous in their white dresses as flowergirls,  and all the children took their parts seriously and were very well behaved.  The boys in grey suits, including Andrew’s two sons Liam and Ben looked extremely smart and perfectly matched the style of the day and venue.

Unfortunately right on wedding time the heavens opened up and it poured down, so the staff hastily moved everything so the ceremony could take place in an indoor location – Anna was amazed when the rain got heavier and heavier but was not phased as she just wanted to marry the love of her life and she didn’t let the rain phase her.  Thankfully it cleared after the ceremony so family and bridal party photos could be taken in the beautiful grounds. The reception room looked beautiful also in the purple/lilac theme. Here is a snippet of some of the photos from their wedding day.

I wish them every happiness for their future together.

February has started out as a very busy month with a vast variety of photography…. Two more gorgeous babies have been snapped, Liam and Kaleigh, an author of romantic novels for portrait shots, Chantelle and Ben’s fabulous wedding, and some very exciting football at Hindmarsh Stadium with an awesome win over Melbourne Victory.

Firstly some pics of the two beautiful babies.

Next was a Fabulous February wedding – Ben and Chantelle were blessed with perfect weather for their wedding day, they have been together for 7 years, and their love for one another was  obvious. The day went off without a hitch, and all that attended obviously had a wonderful time celebrating Ben and Chantelle’s perfect day.

Finally last Friday night it was a game of two fierce rivals Adelaide United and Melbourne Victory … it was a game of yellow cards, send offs, a brilliant header goal for Adelaide United by Jeronimo Neumann and being amongst extremely passionate supporters makes for a very memorable night.

This past week has been busy snapping some very cute little girls, and one charming little boy. At least once a year for the past couple of years I have been asked to photograph three very cute sisters at certain milestones in their lives.  So it was lovely to catch up with them again this week, to photograph the youngest, Zara,  for her 15 month old photo collage – which her two older sisters have had done.

Then the next day a lovely little 10 week boy named Luca – who was very well behaved, and I managed to get some great shots him both awake and asleep – and aren’t sleeping babies the most adorable little creatures.

Here’s a snippet of this past week.

Last night December 31st, 2012  at Hindmarsh before the game we were entertained by belly dancers - we then saw the Reds beat Sydney F.C. 3-0 in a fantastic performance.   The score could have been so much greater with them hitting the woodwork at least 4 times, but Dario Vidosic’s goals certainly delighted the crowd, and Iain Ramsay was over the moon with his goal. Over 10,000 people had an enjoyable night in perfect weather watching a great win.

Last Sunday Adelaide United took on Wellington Pheonix – with the final score being 3-1 in Adelaide’s favour, 2 greats goals by Marcello Carrusa, and one by Fabio Ferreira. The highlight of the night for me were the two brilliant saves by Eugene Galekovic right at the very end of the game … they were just brilliant!!

Last Friday night Adelaide United played in one of the most thrilling games I have witnessed. Sitting on the edge of the pitch with just over 14,000 screaming fans made it such an exciting night. Then to cap it off Adelaide scored their 4 goals in the first half – which just happened to be the end where I was sitting. The Melbourne Victory fans were there in full voice – but quickly shut down with Adelaide scoring their first goal within the first couple of minutes.

There were chants and flares – an awesome sunset – and some brilliant football especially by the AUFC boys. Here’s a few pics from the night.

Welcome to my new website – at present I am still getting my head around how it all works – but want to thank Ashleigh Rusby for getting me up and running and putting it all together for me – hope you agree he has done a great job.

I will try to update my blog regularly – as to what is happening at Deb Curtis Photography.

In the past fortnight I have attended the Glenelg Xmas Pageant to take some shots of the Western Jets Netball teams marching – and then having fun at the Xmas bbq/fun day.
